Apollo is one of the major and most popular dance parties of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras.
It’s a top-tier, bottoms-up, stand-sideways party held during the last Sunday of the Mardi Gras Festival.
It’s a day party held at the famous Metro Theatre — a fully enclosed venue and mega-space where we put on a production, lighting and event like no other event.

As well as being the only event of its kind during Mardi Gras, we’re the only dance party that will send you soaring sky-high on the final day of the Sydney Mardi Gras (and with a beyond respectable amount of confetti in your outfit). We spend a year planning the party so trust us when we say, we’re here to send your weekend into the stratosphere.

The vibe is anything-goes because everyone is there to have fun. It’s a no-attitude party where every person and every gender is welcome. We’re a celebration of the LGBTQIA+ community — not just in Sydney or Australia but across the globe.
The music in the main Apollo Arena is high-energy trance, pop and full-throttle vocal anthems while our Disco Divas space is, as you’d expect, disco favourites, house classics and bangers you thought you’d forgotten but will always remember the words to.
Both spaces are treasured and loved by the crowd because it gives you the best of everything (trust us).
Everyone. Every gender, age, sexuality, race and person is represented and attends Apollo because it is a party for everyone.
From twinks to twunks, otters to muscle, lipstick lesbians to butch dykes and our always-friendly-maybe-curious-maybe-not-straight mates, we pride ourselves on providing a safe, happy space for the LGBTQIA+ community and our allies.

Apollo has been an official Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras event since 2012, when Apollo first began. We’re proud to be both a part of and to align ourselves with the biggest LGBTQIA+ organisation and celebration in the Southern Hemisphere.
